1. Jungle Trekking in Koh Samui, Thailand
You may think of pristine beaches and sparkling water when you think of Koh Samui in Thailand, but a short drive from the coast takes you into a lush jungle. Follow the Hin Lad Waterfall Trail for an hour or two hike that is manageable for even the most inexperienced hikers. You'll walk uphill through the jungle until you reach a waterfall with a plunge pool, where you can take a quick dip or just take in the peaceful view. Note: Dress appropriately in lightweight clothing that can keep you cool in the humidity along with hiking-ready footwear.
2. Mu Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park in Koh Samui, Thailand
If you do want to experience Koh Samui from the water, take a boat trip through the Mu Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 small islands. See great coral reefs, snorkel on Koh Wua Island, take in the spectacular view from Pha Chan Charat viewpoint or take a kayak out from Koh Wua Ta Lap. A short walk from shore will take you to the Emerald Lagoon, a pristine green lagoon surrounded by ancient limestone cliffs.
3. Marble Mountains in Da Nang, Vietnam
Located just seven kilometers from downtown Da Nang, Luminara’s port of call, the Marble Mountains are one of the most famous sites in Vietnam. The five limestone peaks are named for the five elements (metal, water, wood, fire and earth). Inside the stone, you will find caves, a network of tunnels, towers and pagodas built by the Mahayana Buddhists and the Nguyen Dynasty kings. With buildings going back to the 17th century and caves that are flooded with natural light, this is a destination not to be missed. Wear shoes with a good grip as you will walk occasionally on slippery surfaces.
4. Ha Long Bay in Cat Ba Archipelago, Vietnam
A UNESCO world heritage site, Ha Long Bay in northeastern Vietnam offers a stunning landscape of almost 2,000 limestone islands rising up from emerald green waters. Take a step back in time by sailing around the bay in a wooden Junk Boat, a traditional Vietnamese boat with a distinctive multi-deck design and billowing sails. Stop into grottos and caves to explore, even reaching hidden lagoons within them. Relax on a secluded white sand beach. Take in the beautiful vistas from one of the decks of the boat, while hearing the history of the region from an experienced tour guide.
5. Langkawi Sky Bridge in Langkawi, Malaysia
Stretching across the treetops of the Gunung Machinchang mountain in Malaysia, this engineering marvel — one of the world's longest curved suspension bridges — provides spectacular views of the Geoforest's waterfalls, cliffs, gorges and rainforest. On a clear day, you can even see out to parts of Thailand. Reachable by taking the Langkawi Sky Cab up 700 meters, it's ideal for those who are looking to experience nature in an immersive way without a rigorous hike.
