In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Colombian fashion designer Johanna Ortiz transforms Ilma’s upper decks into an immersive expression of color, craftsmanship and Caribbean spirit.
Fashion has long drawn inspiration from travel. Aboard Ilma, that relationship takes on a new dimension.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s recent luxury fashion collaboration with Johanna Ortiz belongs to the latter. With Ilma as her canvas and the sea as her muse, the Colombian designer known for exuberant prints has reimagined two of the yacht’s upper-deck spaces in her own visual language — a textile-driven atmosphere built from color, pattern, and a distinctly tropical sense of place.
Tropical Exuberance, Reimagined at Sea
At the center of the collaboration is Tropical Exuberance, inspired by the abundant flora of the Caribbean and the landscapes of Ortiz’s childhood in Cali, Colombia. The design is interwoven with the brand’s signature sailing rope-knot motif — a detail that ties the print’s tropical roots to the nautical setting it now inhabits.
From this foundation, two prints are applied across contrasting environments on Ilma, each carrying its own mood and purpose. On Deck 9, La Siesta splashes The Observation Terrace with meditative jungle greens and palm motifs for a relaxed aesthetic built for a quieter register and meditative pause.
On the top deck, the mood is more energetic as La Rumba’s dynamic, deep blues mirror the open-air energy of the Pool Bar. These complements pair social, sun-drenched energy with space for reflection — like the rhythm of a day spent ashore in the Caribbean itself.
An Experience Carried Through Every Detail
Rather than treating print as decoration, Ortiz’s work on Ilma uses textile-driven design to set the emotional register of a space before guests have consciously registered why. The biophilic design elements running through the La Siesta print — palm forms, jungle greens, organic motifs — borrow directly from the language of the tropics, while La Rumba’s nautical stripes and deep blues nod to the sea itself. The results feel less like a styling exercise than an extension of each space.
The collaboration moves beyond the decks themselves into the small, sensory details that round out a day on board. A botanical-inspired mixology program of cocktails and mocktails draws on tropical fruits, aromatic herbs and subtle floral notes, each pour conceived as a companion to its surroundings. And Ilma’s onboard boutique carries a curated capsule collection of Johanna Ortiz ready-to-wear, offering guests the chance to bring a piece of the collaboration home.
For Ortiz, the collaboration reflects an instinct that has long shaped her work: a belief that travel, color and craftsmanship are inseparable. Her relationship to the ocean and the place that shaped her earliest creative instincts runs through every detail of the takeover, which began in the Caribbean for Winter 2026 and continues aboard Ilma’s Mediterranean season in Summer 2026.
